Music, I started out playing guitar and piano when I was very young, but then switched to drums
around the age of 12. I played in bands until my career got in the way, but I still try to find time to play when I can. These days I usually listen to video game soundtracks, which are not too distracting while working.
Science, especially physics, astronomy and cosmology, and I am a huge fan of the late great Carl Sagan.
I also enjoy reading about most history topics, particularly topics covering how technology and human advancements occur and can be interconnected over time.
Technology, of all types, although my primary passion is for programming. I have always been a huge fan and supporter of NASA,
and was able to fulfill a dream by working on a contract at NASA Goddard.
My first computer was a TRS-80 II, and I learned programming in BASIC first,
then moved on to Pascal and eventually to C, which is still my favorite language.
When learning a new platform or framework, I usually port a D&D style fantasy game that I started working on when I was around 16.
I wrote it initially in BASIC, but over time I have ported it to Pascal, C on Qnix, C++ on OS/2 and WinNT, and most recently C# on Windows/Linux.
The latest iteration is a .NET based version called Lords of Chaos: Sancity's Edge.
which is written in C# and also uses Xamarin to support multiple platforms for the game client.
